When off, transparent areas are filled with the background color.

How to use

  1. Choose the images to convert (you can add several).
  2. Pick the format to convert to (JPG, PNG or WebP). When you convert an image with a transparent background to JPG, check the background color.
  3. Click [Convert] and the results appear with previews.
  4. Download the files one by one or as a ZIP.

Example

If you convert a design draft (a transparent PNG) to JPG before sending it in a messenger, the file size drops a lot. With the background color set to white, the transparent areas become white. Conversely, when you put a logo on a website, a PNG or WebP that keeps transparency is the better choice.

Supported formats, limits and privacy

  • Input: JPG, PNG and WebP. Output: JPG, PNG and WebP. Formats that your browser cannot save (for example WebP in some browsers) are hidden from the choices.
  • HEIC works as an input only when your browser can open it (mainly Safari on iPhone and Mac), and it cannot be saved as HEIC. AVIF, GIF, BMP and SVG are not supported at the moment.
  • JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are always filled with the background color you choose (white by default). For PNG and WebP, you choose between keeping transparency and filling with a background color.
  • Up to 30 MB per file and up to 30 files at a time. The original EXIF metadata (shooting location, camera information and so on) is not copied into the result. ToolMoru information is recorded automatically in the result file: Software and CreatorTool (ToolMoru) plus the site address (toolmoru.com) in JPG and PNG, and CreatorTool (ToolMoru) plus the site address in WebP. Display-related technical details that the browser adds when saving, such as the color space, may remain. The photo orientation is applied correctly.
  • All conversion happens inside your browser, and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

I converted a PNG to JPG and the background turned white (or black).

JPG cannot represent transparency, so the transparent areas must be filled with some color. To avoid an unexpected black background, this tool fills with white by default, and you can pick any color in the background color field.

Does converting a JPG to PNG improve the quality?

No. Converting a JPG that was already lossy-compressed to PNG does not bring back lost information, and it can even make the file larger. Use it when you need a transparent background or when a site only accepts PNG.

Where can I use WebP?

Most modern browsers can display WebP. However, some older image editors and upload services do not accept WebP, and in that case you can convert it back to JPG or PNG.
