How to use
- Drag images onto the area below, or click it to choose files (up to 30).
- Choose the quality and the output format. We recommend starting at 80% quality and checking the result.
- Click [Compress] and each file shows how much smaller it became compared with the original.
- Download files one by one, or download several at once as a ZIP.
Example
If a 4 MB photo from your camera has to fit a forum attachment limit (for example 2 MB), try saving it as a JPG at 75–80% quality. If the result is still too large, first reduce the width in pixels with Resize Images and then compress; this is much more effective, because resolution (the number of pixels) affects file size the most.
Compression by format
| Format | Compression | Transparency | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Lossy | No | Photos, and when compatibility matters most |
| PNG | Lossless | Yes | Logos, charts, screenshots, and when you need a transparent background |
| WebP | Lossy / lossless | Yes | Making web images even smaller (some older programs may not open it) |
Supported formats, limits and privacy
- Input: JPG (JPEG), PNG and WebP. HEIC works only when your browser can open it (mainly Safari on iPhone and Mac) and is saved as JPG or similar. GIF, AVIF and other formats are not supported.
- Up to 30 MB per file, up to 30 files at a time, and a resolution of about 50 megapixels (these are provisional limits, and smaller images may fail depending on your device memory).
- The original EXIF metadata (shooting location, camera information and so on) is not copied into the result. ToolMoru information is recorded automatically in the result file: Software and CreatorTool (ToolMoru) plus the site address (toolmoru.com) in JPG and PNG, and CreatorTool (ToolMoru) plus the site address in WebP. Display-related technical details that the browser adds when saving, such as the color space, may remain. The photo orientation is applied correctly.
- All processing happens in the browser on this device, and images are never uploaded to a server. Your original files are not modified; new files are created.
- Compression does not always make a file smaller than the original. Already optimized images and PNG files may barely shrink or may even grow, and a warning is shown in that case.
Frequently asked questions
Does compressing reduce image quality?
JPG and WebP use lossy compression, so a lower quality setting gives a smaller file and a slightly less sharp image. Quality between 70% and 85% often looks about the same to the eye, but it depends on the image, so check the result yourself. PNG is a lossless format, so the quality setting does not apply.
The PNG file size does not shrink.
PNG files with many colors, such as photos, are large. If you do not need a transparent background, changing the output format to JPG or WebP often makes the file much smaller.
What happens when I save a transparent PNG as JPG?
JPG cannot represent transparency, so the transparent areas are filled with the "Background color" below. The default is white.
Are my photos sent anywhere?
No. Images are processed only in browser memory and are never sent to a server. Everything disappears when you close the tab.
