How to use
- Select one PDF file. The total number of pages is shown.
- Choose the image format (JPG or PNG) and the resolution (dpi). For JPG you can also choose the quality.
- Enter the pages to convert. Example: 1-3, 5, 8- (leave it empty for all pages). You can convert up to 100 pages at a time.
- Click [Convert to images]. The pages are converted one by one, and you can stop at any time with [Cancel].
- With one image, download it right away. With several, download them one by one or all at once with [Download all as ZIP].
Image size by resolution
| Resolution | One A4 page | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 72 dpi | about 595×842 px | Light previews, sending in a messenger |
| 150 dpi | about 1240×1754 px | Reading on screen, general sharing (default) |
| 200 dpi | about 1654×2339 px | Crisp viewing down to small text |
| 300 dpi | about 2480×3508 px | Printing, text recognition (OCR) |
Example
To send the slides of a presentation PDF in a messenger, convert them to JPG at 150 dpi. To keep the signature page of a contract as a print-ready image, convert it to PNG at 300 dpi. To pick only the pages you need first, use Extract & Split PDF Pages, and to shrink the converted images further, continue with Compress Images.
Supported formats, limits and privacy
- Input: one PDF (up to 100 MB). PDFs that are password-protected, have editing restrictions, or are damaged are rejected with a reason when you add them. This tool does not bypass protection.
- Up to 100 pages are converted at a time. One image must be 16,000,000 pixels or fewer (and 16,384 pixels or fewer on each side). If any page would exceed this at the chosen resolution, no image is created and the tool tells you which resolution to lower it to. For example, an A3 page goes over the limit at 300 dpi. When the total size of the results reaches 200 MB, the tool stops and keeps only the results made so far.
- Each page is drawn one at a time and its memory is released right away, so large documents can also be processed on a phone. Even so, a high resolution or many pages can take a long time or run out of device memory. In that case, lower the resolution or convert the pages in smaller ranges.
- The page is drawn as an image the way it appears on screen. For documents that do not embed their fonts (especially Korean or Japanese ones), a similar font may be substituted or the text may look empty, and the result is not guaranteed to match other PDF viewers exactly. Because the result is an image, text selection, search, copying and links are gone.
- Hidden layers follow the default visibility set in the document. Document information (title, author, etc.) and location information in the PDF are not carried over into the images, and the result images only get the ToolMoru name and the site address as file properties (metadata). No watermark is drawn on the image.
- All processing happens inside your browser, and files are not uploaded to a server. The component that draws the PDF (PDF.js) and its font and color data are downloaded from this site only, the first time you convert on this tool page, and the browser cache is used after that.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose the resolution?
For viewing on a screen or sending in a messenger, 72-150 dpi is enough. For printing, or for images used for text recognition (OCR), 300 dpi is recommended. The higher the resolution, the larger the image dimensions and file size.
Which is better, JPG or PNG?
JPG, with its smaller files, suits documents full of photos, and PNG suits documents where text and lines must stay crisp. Both are drawn on a white background, and no transparent background is made.
Can I combine several pages into one image?
No. One image is made per page. To bundle several images back into one PDF, use the Images to PDF tool.
